Nanosat pricing
September 27, 2004
To Doug Schneider,
I loved your
review of the Mirage Nanosat system, but how do you get $125 x 5 ($625) plus $300 for
the woofer to equal $800?
Daryl
When you buy as a system -- all in one box, as the
review sample came -- you get the Nanosat system for a reduced price. If you buy the
pieces separately, and they are available that way, then you pay a premium....Doug

Flat-panel prices
September 16, 2004
Editor,
I read your editorial regarding flat televisions, "A
New TV," and was wondering what you think will happen with prices over the next few
years. Will the prices come down much more, or should I buy now? I'm on the fence,
although your editorial has pushed me one step further to buying. I appreciate any advice.
T.J.
Prices will continue to drop and the technology will
continue to improve. However, just like with computers, this is an ongoing process and
will not just stop so that people can buy worry-free. My decision came when the price of
flat panels came with earshot of CRTs. That was enough to make me jump (well, with my
wife's prodding, as I wrote in the editorial). Buy when you're comfortable with the price
and don't look back. Just don't continue "shopping" after you've bought; prices
will continue to drop and you don't want to second-guess yourself once you've
purchased....Jeff Fritz
Review
some ATCs!
September 8, 2004
To Wes Marshall,
You compared the Bohlender
Graebener Radia X-Series to your ATC SCM 50As. So how about a review of ATC's SCM 35
model (with Audio Research SP-16 and a Belles 150A Reference as some of the
"Associated Components")? Please compare it to some of the other popular
speakers in that price range.
Fred Olbrecht
I would love to review all of the ATC range. I have kept
the SCM 50As in my system longer than I've ever kept any component and I've still never
found anything that made me want to change. ATC has promised to send us one of their
multichannel systems, so we'll keep our fingers crossed....Wes Marshall
"The dark and the strange"
September 3, 2004
To Doug Schneider,
Regarding your "Favorite Movies on DVD," the dark
and the strange -- I love them too.
Requiem for a Dream is unbelievable. On a lower
level, but similar in an odd way, is The Addiction (or practically any other
movie by Abel Ferrara).
Paul Thomas Anderson is a fave, though I prefer Magnolia.
I hope someday to find a copy of The Dirk Diggler Story.
Leaving Las Vegas is great tragedy. Have you seen The
Boost?
I could go on and on, but I'll stop.

Fosgate FAP T1 or Anthem D1?
September 2, 2004
To Wes Marshall,
Do you consider the Fosgate
Audionics FAP T1 surround-sound processor to be better than the Anthem
Statement D1, dollar for dollar?
Joe Vega
Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to
try the Anthem Statement. It covers a lot more bases than the Fosgate, but it also costs
twice as much. Given the fact that you will want to live with your choice for a while, I
would try to get both of them into your system and see how different they sound and how
much pleasure you derive from each. I would also add the Sunfire Signature 4 into the mix
as a nice alternative priced in between the two other preamp/processors....Wes Marshall |
